I bought a new camera. I was given money for christmas for this and just got around to buying one last week. And I am already annoyed.
I don't understand the new digital functions on the new SLRs and why they got rid of manuel mechanics almost enitrely.
With my old camera, I could put in 400 film, set the shutter speed 1/60 or 1/25, and the f-stop to where the light meter read at a quater below half, and I knew what the negative was going to look like and different ways I could I could make the print look with the right filters. I was a big fan of low light photography and pushing the film instead of using extra lighting.
If the light is low, this cameras controls just blink at me "Change the settings, stupid" till I fix the settings or the light, not allowing me to take the photo. At MEAT, i had to use the flash. And that makes me sad. I give it one more chance tonight, then we will see.
I know, I should move on to digital. But I really like the way film can look, and with everyone using digital, all the photos out there all seem to have that same extreme colour balance and therefore, a very similar look.
To this day, I still weep that my old camera was stolen from the dj booth at Jezebels.
