homeless again?

It finally happened. Kit and I received eviction letters in the mail. 6 total. Three in our mailbox, three certified at the post office. They really, really mean it. There is no reason cited. No, scratch that, the reason cited, and I quote, "We believe we do not have to comply with Rent-Board standards". They want us out November 1st.
Now we are left with many questions and many uncertain decisions. Our lawyer wants us to stick it out, to sue for wrongfull eviction, to sue for other things as well. But, when the verdict finally comes back (a month to two months, according to the lawyer), if it is in their favor, we loose and probably have to pay all their legal fees. Even if the verdit did come back in a month, there is a lengthy appeals process after. Who knows how long. We could win justice, we could win money, we could loose money, we could loose our credit rating.
We don't have enough for a deposit and all that, so we are anticipating having to go to a hotel.
This ruins a lot of plans we had. Everything is uncertain. Money is tight, time is short.
You will have to excuse me if I am not bouncy, fun, touchy-feely Patricia for awhile.
Did I mention I have been woken several times a night with panic attacks? Panic attacks.... in my sleep. At least I hope they are panic attacks. If they are not, I have something seriously wrong with me.

Date: 2006-09-28 09:42 pm (UTC)I have no other advice except do what your gut tells you too.
No one will think less of you for taking care of yourself and bowing to a tough situation.
On the flip side if you do fight them please don't be too proud to ask friends (and strangers) for help when/if you need it. Injustice is everyone's problem even if you happen to be the focal point of it's manifestation.
And your friends will love you know matter what you do.

Also, if you can, email a run down of your situation. my sister works for an organization that does tenants rights. She might be able to give you good info.
