I have a lot of crap going on in my head about what has happened and what can happen. But I am putting all that aside to ask one question. Am I so old? No, that is not the question. The question is... When did the word "SNARK" become "SARK" in the online world, AND am I so old I did not notice? What did I miss this time?

I think this is something started from a mispelling on [livejournal.com profile] seattle where snarking (sarking) is the rule of thumb

For some reason, it really annoys me. Kind of like most of the [livejournal.com profile] seattle community. I joined it cause I miss Seattle. I keep reading it with the same fascination as a slow motion car wreck.

I think the "so" bit is more confusing to me than the "sark" bit!

Um...what the hell does SNARK (or SARK, for that matter) actually mean? I am old, and therefore have no real understanding of these (presumably) internetty type things...

Snark is kind of an old word. Used it since I was a kid. When someone makes snide remarks they are being "Snarky". Now it has developed to "Sark" via kids on the net.

I'm going to guess that it comes from someone incorrectly thinking the word stems from "sarcasm" as opposed to a mashup of the phrase "snide remark".

However, I think "[sarc]" is used if you're trying to indicate that you used sarcasm and you want to be sure the recipient understands (since we don't have the verbal or visual cues to indicate it online), and don't want to use a fancy eye-rolling emoticon.

just to complete the picture replies -

It's a [livejournal.com profile] seattle community thing, I guess. They pride themselves on being obnoxious dicks, or as they call it, SARK.
