Not a comprehensive update. Just a pissed update.
Not as pissed off as I was last night. But still pissed. Pissed that my financial situation forces me to go back to that pit of dispair that is Studio Z

There is just something wrong when a manager talks people into working who already have reservations, then himself shows up in a bullet proof vest. (Jared already requested never to work hip-hop shows, after the shooting. So, he was schedualed to barback.) Chris ended up not quite needing the vest, but our security could certainly have used riot gear.
It started off cool. The promoter was on top his game. He was the first to stop a fight. People gathered, pushing started to happen, then the promoter was there, had someones arm twisted behind his back and was pushing him out the door.
Then a girl was jumped by another girl, and was bloodied with scratches. Then a guy is fighting with a girl and hauls back like to hit her, luckily, for that moment, people got in between. She would not be so lucky later. There would then be a few more scuffles before it started to get bad.
At one point, girl A starts fighting with the girl who almost got hit by the guy. I would later find out girl A was Guys girlfriend, sent in as a distraction. Other girls jumped in and jumped girl B. Their boys came in and pulled their girls away, not to stop the fight, but so they themselves could stomp the girl. This I did not see. It was stopped rather quickly, but was still wretchedly violent.
As more angst and small scuffles filled the room, prompted by attitude of the last performer of the evening. He was rowdy, wasn't listening to tech or security. One of them threatend John Adams while he was trying to set the stage earlier.
As they continued their rabbel rousing, the boyfriend of my co-bartender for the evening, Sara, came up. He has promoted a few things at Z, hip-hop nights that were a success and had no violence. He this knew this crowd and this scene well. He came up and said we need to shut the bar. "I know this. This is about to get out of control. You need to shut this down and shut it down now and get out". I told him I can't until management says something. If I ask, they wont listen, that he needed to talk to them. He did talk to them. Chris walked through the room, and into the back, "checking on things", but did nothing.
Then the real fights started to happen. 12 guys were stomping on ONE guy on the stairs by my bar. I jumped pn the bar and started calling them pussies. I couldn't help it, my Irish blood can not sit idley by. One guy threw himself on top of the poor victim to stop it, and it stopped. For a moment. This new guy who threw himself across the guy on the ground was my nicest customer all night. He did not speak a lot of english, and was very shy until he had a few beers in him. Coronas, no lime. I saw a group push towards the door, then back against the main bar. There were 15 or more guys beating on noone other than my Corona guy. I, at this point, went over my bar. I wish I was big and burley, then I could do more then yell at the large group of assholes and stop them from pummeling the nice guy in the bar. Demetrius yelled at me to get back. As they laid into him, the group shifted to the front of th stage, where Corona ended up on the floor before the hitting stopped. There was more pushing, more aggression. Pockets here and there, security trying to get everyone out. People, not leaving. Even still trying to hit on me and Sarah, the fucks. I also heard later that someone got cut. But fortunatly, not bad. Just a graze.
Apparently, during most of this, police were outside in riot gear. But nobody came in. DJ had a good point that it just might incite worse violence. But you think police would have some body to send in. Plain clothes, anything. It took forever to break it all up.
I called Kit when this was going on to tell him to stay away from the club. I did not want any of the fucks who got kicked out to come across him and his cases of CDs and take out their angst by violently mugging him. So he immediatly headed over to make sure I was okay. The fool. I love him.
Demetrius made a good point. The security was in a hard position. Most of our security is black. Most of the gangsters there were mexican. For some reason beknownst only to god, the two races violently hate eachother. Anything the security would do other than pull people away, or escort them out, would have insighted, as D put it, a "nigger stomping". Most of our security is really fucking good. But we need a more racially diverse staff for that reason.

I was just glad when Jared and [livejournal.com profile] labmouse42 opted to come back with us to [livejournal.com profile] omegashade and my place. It was nice to have the company, the conversation, and the venting.

*singing* Oh what a night.....

Did I mention, also, after all that bullshit, Studio Z didn't even pay Sarah for working last night?

Bullshit. Its all bullshit.

I hate not being able to walk out of my job.

Oh goody -
