Apparently I have not just been struggling with the effects of an irregular schedual but have been suffering the effects of the struggle of my immune system against tiny, yet powerful, invaders. I haven't quite lost yet, but had a set back in the battle tonight.
I got nauseas and threw up at the beginning of my shift tonight, but I thought it was a passing thing. Then later I just felt weird, kinda weak and shaky, but had no signs of fever. Then came the highlight of my evening. I was at door when Alexis had just given tickets to a group of people, who were nice. I was starting not too feel so good, but there were 2 calls one right after the other for security in the lounge, and it was soft pull, so I knew it was a bad time to need to be covered at the door, so I just took slow breaths. While I was trying to organize who was with the group the tickets were for, a tall guy comes barreling at me and pushing me aside as he goes out the front door, a no-no. I asked the nice people to wait, and they did, and followed after the guy, then saw in the light why he was such a prick. He wasn't a prick, he was bleeding from the top of his head. His hand was red with blood and it was beginning to drip down his face. Obviously he had come down from whatever the incident that required security in the lounge was. Then a guy and two girls come through the front, pushed past the group that was nicely waiting for me to stamp them and were trying to get past me without giving me tickets or showing me stamps and arguing with me that they "had already paid". "That's great," I told them, I just needed tickets or stamps. After arguing them for a couple of minutes and the guy becoming indignant and irate, he says "Look!" and shows me his stamp. "That's all I needed," I tell him. "Why didn't you say so?" he huffs. "Um, I did." It is amazing how many people will stand there and argue with you non-stop without listening to a word you are saying.
It also amazing that people will casually saunter in and pay and go dance when a man is bleeding into white towels from his head at the front door. That's usually my cue to think twice. But I have worked hip-hop clubs a bit too often.
Security was quite busy with the fight, the injured man, and the fact that it was now past 2 and had not had a chance to do hard pull all the while I kept feeling worse and worse. Eventually Pet Rock walks past me and I ask him... well I am not exactly sure what I asked him. I felt a bit off and not well. I know it was something to do with how busy he and Jay were at the moment. He replied something about very and the stuff that was going on. I said something, I hope nicely, about when they can - I am going to be sick. Without hesitation, Pet Rock sat on the door stool and said "Go."
The wonderful staff there worked out a way to cover for me so I could go home, after that. Which I am very grateful for. My head hurts and I still feel strangely weak, shaky, and just a bit off, but now I am in bed watching the old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon and Evil Dead, and that makes it all better.
