miss_kae_oz: (Fuck Off)
Last nights Misfits show got me reminiscing.

Back when I was a rambunctious teenager, oh say 13, back in '88 - '93, my friend, Amy Platt, 's brothers were in a band called Glass Bottom. Glass Bottom was a funk-punk band, a la early Chili Peppers plus Mr. Bungle. The singer could skat with the best of them. Her dad was the Magic Chicken, a hardened hippie and harmonica player who occasionally played with Chuck Hall and the Brick Wall. He took his precious little girl and a few of her girlfriends with when Glass Bottom would play The Mason Jar. Woa be unto the security guard who did not want to let the underage tag alongs in. So I had been grooving in the beer soaked mosh pits to the likes of Flotsam and Jetsam since I was 13.

All this reminiscing got me curious and when I woke up at dear-god-early this morning because my brain just won't stop, I decided to waste the time searching the internet for what I could find of this time in my life. Being that the inernet was not exactly a huge phenomenon before '93, there is nothing of Glass Bottom in existence (which is sad, because they had a record contract offer when the singer decided to go to medical school instead). Nothing Cool, my other friends band who used to open for Glass Bottom back then, still has info out there as they are still going and have relocated to San Francisco, though I only recognize one member, Theo, these days.

But, I did find a few things about The Mason Jar. The first thing I found made me quite saddened. The Mason Jar, a bastion of hard rock, punk and, more recently, hip-hop in Phoenix for more than two decades, has temporarily closed for remodeling and will reopen as a gay bar, according to the owner of the property. I did find some live videos on you tube, but most are from after my time. The few from my time are bands like TOOL and Nirvana which I was not fortunate enough to see back in the ol'e days.

But I did find a video of Total Chaos at The Mason Jar. So here it is, a glimpse into my younger youth -

I miss you, carefree, beer soaked (soaked in other peoples beer), bruised days of youth.
