Out of all the dangerous substances in the world that people should be lobbying for laws and regulations against is High-Fructose Corn Syrup. Its link to Diabetes 2 is just the cherry on top of the artificially flavored sundae.
I personally loath the taste of foods made with HFCS, other than some sodas, yet have a hell of a time avoiding it. Anyone grocery shopping with me becomes frustrated at how long it takes for me to just pick out a loaf of bread. I read the ingrediants on everything before I buy it, but even finding a loaf of bread with out HFCS is near to impossible these days.
People who think they are automatically avoiding the dangers of HFCS by buying Organic, or non-fat, or low fat foods would be very surprised if they looked a little more intensly at how many of these products contain the offending substance.
Why is it so prevalent? Politics. The federal government subsidizes the production of corn syrup and put high taxes on sugar. Why would they do that? I heard awhile ago that the corn industry rivals the mafia, but I have no info on that at the moment, so I will drop that for now. But it is commonly known all politicans motivation is money and re-eletion.
But, if you are concerned with your health or loosing weight, it is crucial to pay attention to your corn syrup intake. It is much worse than plain sugar. Even refined sugar.
Well, don't take it from me, here are just a few sites on HFCS

And one link to info on one of my biggest food banes - aspartame. Aspartame makes me ill and gives me headaches and leaves a strange taste in the back of my throat. http://www.historical-id.info/quotations/Aspartame_-More_Dangerous_Than_High_Fructose_Corn_.html

I am not being precise or comprehensive. I have been awake too long and been subjected to pounding house music that our regular tweekers do not like for 6 hours, but there it is.

I have the same problems with Aspartame. Luckily I have no such issues with Splenda. Unluckily only a few sodas are made with Splenda. Luckily most of the ones that are are REALY good, like Hanson's.

Whoa! I'm happy to see you post about HFCS. My b/f is always telling me about how bad it is for you but I always assumed it was just b/c he was a hippy vegan, hehe. Nice to see that someone else has the same opinion.

P.S. Great meeting you last weekend ; )
