Big names needed.

.

I am in need of a famous person. For one of my classes, the mid-term project we have to do a 15 minute tape recorded interview with a celebrity or newsworthy person for the college radio. It has be a relatively well known name. A name if you asked people on the street, someone would have heard of it.
Now, I am supposed to track this person down and get them to agree to the interview. I don't think the "getting them to agree" part is a problem. Most people with any sort of celebrity status are open to being interviewed, even, if not especially, by students. It is the finding out how to get a hold of someone and talking to them in the first place. I have no research skills, let alone schmoozing skills. I think it is actually a very unfair assignment in a class that is not teaching anything about researching and networking, and it is %25 of my entire grade.
So, if you know any famous persons who would gladly do an interview, send them my way.
Thanks.

.

How big of a name do you need?

You should have just come to me first, I have more than a few folks I can ask for you.

That is very sweet, and if you know anyone around and available, it would be appreciated. I would have felt bad going to you and asking directly. I didn't want to impose or make anyone feel pressured or obligated.

And now that you know that feeling like that gets you nowhere, you have learned the most important lesson of research and networking. :) Good luck! I don't really have any rockstars that I can refer anymore (watch me get old), but I'll keep it on the edge of my mind, just in case.

How about Glenn Shadix, the guy who played Otho from Beetlejuice (or the Mayor in Nightmare Before Xmas)? I have been talking to him a lot lately. He just moved to Alabama.

I have also been talking to the guy who played Choda Boy in Orgazmo, but I don't really think of him as famous enough.

I should also mention this has to be an in person interview, so it has to be someone who is where is can get to. The furthest I can get is l.a. And that's only 'cause I have a friend itching to drive there.

Hmm, how about Bill Moseley or Sid Haig then? All the people I know in LA are from horror movies and are more properly defined as B-Movie stars. I could probably get you Richard Moll (Bull from Night Court) too. There is also the possibility of Clive Barker, but I'll talk to my contacts for Really Famous Stars. I can also get you Mark Hamill or Carrie Fisher or Billy Dee Williams through one contact of mine in LA. Possibly Shatner (I actually have a contact for him). Alice Cooper? But you'd have to be willing to drive to Arizona for that, I forgot. Choda Boy lives in LA too.

I have some weird contacts. I'll tell you what, you tell me a dream interviewee, and I'll try to show you how to find them. I've actually got my own system for finding out how to invite people to conventions and I used to write interviews -- I'll share the secrets I've learned about it. It's far easier to get an interview than to get a convention appearance too.

I don't think Marshall is quite celebrity enough.

Don't you know a bunch of people in bands (Kurt, Tyler, Paul...) Maybe you should ask them. I'm sure there are a few people out there that have heard of their bands. Or is that not famous enough?

How about Frank Chu, aka Mr. 12 Galaxies? He would totatlly do it. Of course, I still think absinthedream's suggestion is better.

What class is it for? This is maybe a looooong shot, but Sean Penn lives in Marin and is MAD about political issues and his voice being heard on them; given the right one, who knows? Again it seems like a long shot, but fuck it. Do some research on how you may get in touch with his publicist or manager or something. You never know. Sometimes all you have to do to get something is just ask for it.

I wish I could be more of a help.
