Oct. 10th, 2007 01:00 amI have been loaned till saturday evening, a digital camera and lens that originally cost over $3000. It is 12 mega pixels, I believe. It belongs to my friends father, who works for the Associated Press. This makes me very nervous. I should have said "No" but couldn't. Yet, I will probably be too paranoid to take it out of the house.
And just too add a bit of adventure to it all, I had to get it home all the way from the Mt. Diablo area. In the blustery rain. With a broken umbrella. The camera and I made it home safe and sound, though I did discover a very large crack across the bottom of my shoe.
On a similar note, a friend of mine, Patrick, had his $2000 digital camera stolen from his checked bag while flying Jet Blue. My friend Ton, a pilot, confirmed that baggage handlers are notorious thieves. While Jet Blue is trying to make amends (Ton also confirms that Jet Blue has one of the best reputations for trying to make amends to inconvenienced customers), his baby is still gone along with literally thousands of photographs. Having had a similar experience when my much less valuable, yet just as dear, camera was stolen with a roll of film still in it last august, he has my utmost sympathy. Poor boy.
Lesson learned? Don't check valuables and always lock your suitcases when traveling!

livid, Ed is currently working on a newer, better production of Miss Melancholy Fae's song, and she has a myspace - http://www.myspace.com/melancholyfae, though the song does not seem to be on it. Just thought you might want to know.
