It is 8:15am. We have been at the hospital since quater to 5 for check in. The surgery was supposed to begin at 7:30am, BUT the anesthesiologist has not shown up. We just found out he was double booked or something and is not comming. At the moment, the surgical staff are trying to scrape up another one.
Other than that, the surgical team has been quite nice, comming in to talk about different aspects of what will happen. The head surgeon, Dr. Standerfer, came in with the x-ray's and showed me the growth and how close to the heart and lungs it is. He explained how they may have to take a bit of the lung if it has attached itself to it, but there is no way to know until he is opened. They will be removing the better part of 5 ribs and replacing the area with Gortex. Eventually.
God, I am exausted. I have not had more than 2 hours asleep at a time since Sunday, t times. I had only about a half hour nap last night before getting up to head to the hospital. And I only slept 4 hours between my Saturday night shift and and Sunday night shift.
But for now, we are at least keeping dad in high spirits, teasing him, keeping him laughing. I am glad I am here.
