Hurts so good.
Apr. 1st, 2007 05:16 pmI am laying in bad in pain today, but this is not a plea for pity. Au contraire. I am in pain because by the grace of _uriel_ I worked barbacking all weekend. I am cut and bruised, and; as all the liquor, beer, water, and other supplies storage is down stairs and there is no ice machine upstairs and I was the barback for the upstairs; many a muscle is sore. But my slow shuffle to the bathroom is already half as slow as it was this morning, so I appear to be healing fast.
I had a good time working this weekend, despite the parties. The sense of self satisfied entitlement and importance of San Francisco Hippies rivals that of well to-do hipster yuppies who are "friends of the promoter", which makes it hard to get through crowds with ice buckets and cases of beer since they feel they should not have to move out of anyones way. But I would put up with all that again to work at DNA again.
The best thing about working at the DNA? The staff. Did you know they actually have, thanks to <lj user=sfmusiconline>'s hiring skills, security staff that actually is active, moves around, and doesn't resent when you make them get off of a stool and do stuff? Really. And they are not bullies or power trippers, like so many security in clubs in this town. And all the gel in all the hair of all the security probably equals half of the gel on the head of one of the male security at, say, Ruby Skye.
Not to mention the bar staff. Well, you are all familiar with the bartenders and the barback Ron. Rock stars, every one. Except Micah. I still don't know Micah. He seemed okay last night. But he is the reason I needed the barbacking shift so badly. Now that he is working there and Kit's shifts have been cut to accommodate, we are a little hard pressed to get the rent paid, so I have to try not to hold that against him. I am certain he does not even realize 2 bartenders (2 1/2 if you count my occasional gig) have lost a lot of income because he is working there. It would not be fare for me to hold something he doesn't even know against him. And as I said, he seemed decent last night. The jury's still out on him, but we shall see. We may like him yet.
Now my rent is payed, I had fun, and I am eating well today. I am relishing my pain.
