Kit has had a tooth-ache for just over a week. He could not get work off monday in order to become a new patient at UCSF, so he was going to try to wait till next week. Today he woke up with side of his face swollen to more than twice the healthy side. He went to work at 10am and called around to find someone to cover, then he called 1800-DENTIST. They booked him with a dentist at 2:00.
The staff was very nice, they quickly x-rayed him and gave him a prescription for anitbiotics. They can't do much else until the swelling goes down. But, if they can do a root canal and not an extraction, it is going to cost $1500 on the spot.
The emergency appointment was $200. The prescriptions were $140. Just those costs broke us. We are going to have to look around for discount services, or someone who takes payments.
Kit is sleeping now. He is still in quite a bit of pain.
